August 6, 2015 - West Coast League (WCL)
Kelowna Falcons News Release
The Kelowna Falcons have a new single season homerun king.
Justin Flores hit his 8th homerun of the season on Wednesday night, but it wouldn't be enough as the Falcons fell to the Corvallis Knights by a 7-6 score.
Once again the Knights opened the scoring in the 1st inning, pushing across a run with a couple of stolen bases and an RBI single from Christian Donahue.
Kelowna responded in the bottom half, loading the bases with nobody out. After Flores grounded into a double play scoring 1, Kyle Plantier had an RBI single to give the Falcons the lead.
Brandon Oliver then dumped one into left field moving Plantier to 3rd, however Oliver was called out for missing 1st base.
Corvallis made it 3-2 in the 3rd, as Ryan Matranga scored on a throwing error by Oliver, and Emilio Alcantar cashed in Jes Staples just one batter later.
The Knights scored 1 run in each of the next 4 innings, including a lead-off homer in the 4th from Michael Farris as they opened up a 5-2 lead through the top half of the 5th.
Kelowna responded with 3 runs in the bottom half, as Hunter Villanueva doubled to score Ben Gamba to set the stage for Flores.
With a 1-2 count, Flores got a hold of a pitch from Jorge Perez and drove it over the fence for the 2-run homer, passing Kyle Pearson on the single-season list.
Corvallis would add a run in the 6th on an RBI double from Matranga, and another in the 7th when Farris cashed in Alcantar.
Kelowna scored in the 7th on a Sac Fly from Plantier.
Jayse Bannister took the loss on the mound for Kelowna, while Perez picked up the win.
Harrison McGhee struck out 5 of 8 batters he faced, picking up the save.
The Falcons and Knights battle in the series finale on Thursday at Elks Stadium, 6:35 start.
