Falcons Fall Short

July 7, 2016 - West Coast League (WCL)
Kelowna Falcons News Release

A rebound performance wasn't in the cards for the Falcons on Thursday night. After losing a very close game one of their series against the Gresham GreyWolves, the hope was that the team could make a few adjustments and turn things around. A late rally by the Falcons didn't prove to be enough though, as they lost 6-4.

The story in game two was much the same. Despite getting 9 hits, the Falcons left 8 runners on base over the course of the game, including the 2 they needed most in the ninth inning.

GreyWolves starting pitching proved difficult to solve again, as starter Rilyn Lewchuk went 7 complete innings, only surrendering 2 runs to the Falcons' bats.

On the home side, lefty Jordon Ragan had an uncharacteristic outing. Ragan, who usually goes into the late innings, pitched just 4 innings, allowing 6 hits and giving up 5 earned runs without recording a strikeout.

Riley Moore stepped in for the birds, and gave his club a chance to win, closing out the game with 5 innings pitched and allowing just a single run.

Outfielder Brendt Citta was bright spot for the gloomy Falcons offense. The 6'2 freshman recorded 2 hits in the game, including a double, which scored 2 runners in the fourth inning. On top of sharp hitting, Citta had some sturdy defensive plays, including a behemoth throw from left field to home plate to save a run and end the sixth inning.

Second basemen Lane Lacrone had a good night at the plate as well, getting himself two hits, including a bases loaded single, sending home two runs and trying to start the Falcons rally in the final frame.

The loss brings the Falcons season record to 13-16, and a rough 0-2 in the second half.

Cameron Jack gets the start on the mound for the Falcons on Friday. The rubber match between these two clubs is set for 6:35 PM at Elks Stadium.
