Falcon Park to Host 2016 Division III Baseball Regional

Auburn, NY - The Auburn Doubledays of the New York-Penn League, Single-A Short Season affiliate of the Washington Nationals, are pleased to announce Falcon Park has been selected to host the 2016 NCAA Division III Baseball New York Regional. The Doubledays will host the tournament in conjunction with SUNY Cortland from May 18-22.

The schools participating in the double-elimination regional will be announced on Monday, May 16. The regional champion will advance to the eight-team NCAA Division III World Series May 27-31 in Appleton, WI.

Cortland is the defending NCAA Division III Baseball National Champion. The Red Dragons won their first baseball title in program history last season after beginning NCAA regional play in Auburn. In all, ten previous NCAA regionals have been held at Falcon Park, all since 2000. Cortland has served as the host school on four previous occasions.

"We are really excited to host the tournament at Falcon Park again this year. It's a great opportunity to showcase the ballpark and the City of Auburn to baseball fans from who will be traveling to the area from across the Northeast." said Doubledays General Manager Mike Voutsinas. "It's also a good way to get our staff ready for our season, which starts next month."

Cortland has qualified for NCAA play each of the last 23 years (1993-2015), the longest active streak nationally in Division III. The Red Dragons are currently ranked first nationally in Div. III. Seven of Cortland's 13 regional crowns occurred in Auburn (2000, 2001, 2005, 2007, 2008, 2010, 2015), along with three second-place finishes (2006, 2011, 2013).

The Doubledays will open the 2016 season on Friday, June 17 at home against the Batavia Muckdogs at 7:05 p.m. Season ticket plans as well as tickets for the recently announced Meet the Manager Night to be held on Friday, May 27 are on sale now.
