Bloomington Extreme News Release
BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Bloomington Extreme wide receiver Reggie Gray has a tryout with Colorado Crush of the Arena Football League on Wednesday and Thursday, Extreme coach Ted Schmitz announced Tuesday.
"It's an opportunity Reggie couldn't pass up," said Schmitz, who still expects to have Gray in uniform for Friday's season-opener at 7:35 p.m. at U.S. Cellular Coliseum against Rock River in United Indoor Football action.
"With Glenn (Johnson) already out, we really need Reggie at wide receiver," added Schmitz. "The timing is kind of odd since Colorado is already four games into their season, but they wanted to give Reggie a look."
Gray, who was injured for part of the season, ranked fourth on the team last year in yards gained with 392 and receptions with 33. He averaged 11.9 yards per catch and scored six touchdowns in six games.
The Western Illinois University product also averaged 65.3 yards per game, which ranked second on team. Gray returned five kickoffs for a 24-yard average, which led the team.
Gray is only one of three players in Western Illinois history to earn all-conference honors each of his four years. He finished his career as the school's all-time leading receiver with 2,372 yards on 137 receptions.
