Fort Myers Mighty Mussels News Release
JUPITER -- Two straight extra-inning games, two identical scores, two different results for the Fort Myers Miracle. After winning Monday's ten-inning affair 4-3, the team lost to the Palm Beach Cardinals 4-3 in eleven frames on Tuesday.
Henry Arias (0-1) was handed the loss after allowing four straight hits to start the bottom of the eleventh against Palm Beach. The last hit was a dropped fly ball in center after Ben Revere realized he was too deep to attempt a throw home even after making the catch with the bases loaded. Charles Kingrey crossed the plate with the winning run on what was ruled a Curt Smith single. Smith finished 3-for-6, while Revere was 3-for-4, Rene Leveret went 2-for-4, and Chris Cates was 2- for-5.
Charged with a blown save (1) was Alex Burnett, who allowed one run in the ninth. Blake King (2-0) was the winning pitcher for the Cardinals, which beat the Miracle for the first time in 2009. Starter Tyler Robertson didn't factor into the decision, with 4 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 4 BB, and 5 SO.
Joe Mauer was 1-for-2 with a double, run scored, and RBI on a sacrifice fly before he was removed in the sixth inning. Mauer was also for 1-for-2 against stolen bases after the Cardinals gave him his first test on the basepaths in five games.
The two-time All-Star is not expected in the line-up for Wednesday morning's game at 10:35 a.m. Mike McCardell takes the mound for the Miracle in the series' rubber match.
