Explosion look to a Slam rematch Friday and Japan on Saturday

May 1, 2009 - International Basketball League (IBL)
Snohomish County Explosion News Release

Monroe, Washington -May 1st 2009- Explosion Basketball and Devon Greene the IBL leading scorer who scored 37 points last game, to power the Snohomish County Explosion to a 114-111 upset over the defending IBL champion Bellingham Slam (4-2), look forward to tonight's rematch although a few less players will be suiting up this weekend.

The Slam will be without guards Jacob and Jared Stevenson, who were both suspended following last Saturday's game. Explosion point guard Anthony Slater the leading assist leader with a 15.3 average per game will also be a game time decision as he was injured in last weeks highly competitive contest. This looks to be the night that forward Troy Gywnn of the Explosion returns from a training camp injury and may be activated again as a game time decision.

Chris Ferguson former Bellingham player was released this week from the Slam and has joined the Explosion and will be activated tonight he will be added to the roster replacing Michael Boyle who in limited time averaged just 3.7 point per game. Chris did not play against the Explosion but the coaching staff believes that Ferguson can improve the teams bench. In 2008 Ferguson averaged 8.0 points per game for Bellingham and should see limited action this evening.

"This will be a battle this weekend again," Weakley said. "I don't think Bellingham has ever lost two games in a row in the IBL or even in the ABA. I am sure this is the biggest game not only in the IBL but all minor league sports this weekend."

The Explosion shot under 60% from the free throw line last weekend and this is still a major concern for the team something that needs to improve tonight.

Tyler Amaya who lead in the previous match up for the Slam despite the loss he grabbed 20 rebounds and 24 points in 44 minutes. Only eight players played for the Slam while the Explosion played their normal rotation with 10 players.

The Explosion look to tip off Saturday at 7:15pm with true international play as they take on Japan in the Monroe Sports Arena. Tickets are still available online at www.explosionbasketball.net or by calling 425-339-BALL extension 1.
