Explosion Announce Signing of QB and All-League WR

(Erie, PA) -Erie Explosion Head Coach Shawn Liotta has announced the signing of two offensive playmakers to bolster an Erie offense which averaged over 70 points per game and led the league in total offense in 2011. Quarterback A.J. McKenna has agreed to a contract for the 2012 season. McKenna (6'5, 235) has experience as a starter at the professional indoor level with the Reading Express and the Albany Panthers. McKenna was signed as an NFL free agent in 2010 with the New Orleans Saints. McKenna comes to Erie after spending time as the starter in Reading completing 28-54 passes for 258 yards with 5 touchdown passes, and added 61 yards rushing and 2 touchdowns.

McKenna enjoyed a stellar collegiate career at Albany State University in Albany, Ga. In his final two college seasons, he started 16 games. He particularly shined in 2009, leading the Golden Rams to an 8-3 overall record and an NCAA Division II playoff berth. McKenna led the team's offense with 2,355 yards of total offense. In 11 games, he passed for 2,027 yards, completing 154 of 288 passes for 19 touchdowns and rushed for 328 yards on 92 carries for a touchdown. That success on the field netted McKenna the 2009 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference MVP Award. He was also named the 2009 Offensive Player of the Year after leading the conference in touchdowns.

2011 UIFL All-League Wide Receiver Willie Idlette will be joining the Explosion. Idlette (5'9, 185) a product of Wake Forest, was a vital cog in the Northern Kentucky Rivermonsters offense in during the 2011 season, finishing with 91 receptions for 1,178 yards, and 21 touchdowns. His 90.6 yards per game ranked second overall in the entire league. Prior to playing with Northern Kentucky, Idlette spent time with the Greenville Force and established himself as one of the top receivers in professional indoor football.
