Sioux City Explorers News Release
SIOUX CITY, IA - The Sioux City Explorers announced today that they have acquired veteran pitcher Brad Guy from the Brockton Rox and signed him to a 2007 American Association contract. With the signing of Guy, the Explorers now have five players under contract with two of those being starting pitchers.
Guy is a 10-year veteran of professional baseball and has spent the last 3 seasons in the Independent ranks. He enjoyed a stellar season last as a starter in Brockton when he compiled a 9-5 record with an astonishing 2.93 earned run average. Guy also threw a league leading 153.1 innings while throwing (5) complete games. He spent the 2005 season with Brockton while playing all of 2004 with Nashua of the Atlantic League.
"I am thrilled to have the opportunity to bring someone of Brad's stature and work ethic to our ball club. He will be a tremendous addition to our rotation and will also serve as a great leader in the club house and will quickly become a fan favorite with his personality, commented field manager," Ed Nottle.
The Pittsburgh Pirates originally drafted Brad in the 27th round of the 1997 draft. Guy pitched at nearly every level of the Pirates organization. He spent 1997, 1998 and 1999 at the single A level as a reliever and part-time closer. In 2000, Brad jumped to Altoona (AA) and appeared in 54 games there posting a 3.53 ERA. In 2001 after starting at Altoona, Guy made 22 appearances with Nashville (AAA). The 2002 and 2003 seasons were spent between the Pirates and Phillies double A teams.
