Exhibiting a Tie

Joliet JackHammers News Release


JOLIET, IL – The Joliet JackHammers and Schaumburg Flyers met at Silver Cross Field for a Northern League exhibition game, and the game ended in a 1-to-1 tie after 10 innings. There were a total of six hits in the game and two were for the JackHammers. The gates of Silver Cross Filed were closed for this game.

Flyers RHP Hank Woodman started and was perfect through three innings. JackHammers RHP Rich Hyde started and was solid in his starting role. The veteran allowed a lead-off single in the top of the 1st to Digz Edwards and then proceeded to ground the Flyers. He struck out two and walked one.

JackHammers LHP Brent Franklin worked the next three innings. He allowed one hit, walked one and struck out three in a scoreless effort. JackHammers RHP Adam Shafer pitched a 1-2-3 8th inning.

In the bottom of the 8th inning, the JackHammers Pichi Balet (1-for-1) pinch hit for Christian Franco (0-for-2). Pichi delivered a RBI double to the left field corner scoring Rob Fischer (0-for-2) from first base. After eight innings, the JackHammers led 1-to-0. They scored the run off of the Flyers RHP Mark Percosky.

JackHammers RHP Oscar Montero pitched the top of the 9th inning. He allowed a RBI triple to Mario Delgado (1-for-3) to right-center field scoring Geoff McCallum (1-for-3) from first base. The Flyers tied the game at 1-to-1.

Loose Gravel: The first JackHammers hit of the exhibition season was a Peter DeYoung (1-for-4) single with one out in the bottom of the 5th inning. JackHammers LF Rob Fischer caught a fly ball and delivered a laser beam throw to first base to double off Derek Bell (0-for-1) in the top of the 3rd inning.

The JackHammers next home exhibition game is on Tuesday, May 20 at 6:05 PM. In lieu of a gate fee, the United Way will be accepting donations. The food concession stands will be open that day, too. The JackHammers open the 2003 season at 7:05 PM on Friday, May 23 versus the Gary (IN) SouthShore RailCats. Harris Bank presents Opening Night Post-Game Fireworks and all fans through the gates will receive a magnet schedule courtesy of Gregg Motors.
