IFL Indoor Football League

Every Game Counts as Indoor Football League Charges Toward the Postseason

August 10, 2021 - Indoor Football League (IFL) News Release

COLUMBUS, OH - With just two weeks remaining in the 2021 regular season, the race for the Indoor Football League's 2021 Playoffs is in overdrive. Ten teams still remain in postseason contention, and every remaining game will have playoff implications.

The 2021 IFL Playoffs will consist of three rounds and will feature the top eight teams in the league. The teams will be seeded based on overall winning percentage, with adjustments available to account for teams that would have played the Louisville Xtreme.

The IFL postseason will begin the weekend of August 27-29, with the United Bowl being played the weekend of September 10-12. For each of the postseason matchups, the higher seeded team will have the opportunity to host, including the championship round.

"This season has been an extremely exciting one, with games every weekend that come down to the final possessions," said IFL Commissioner Todd Tryon. "With the parity that exists throughout the league, the race for the playoffs and for playoff seeding will make every game for the remainder of the season a must-watch matchup."

Thus far, four teams have clinched playoff berths. Three of those teams have also clinched at least one playoff home game. The Arizona Rattlers, Frisco Fighters, Massachusetts Pirates, and Spokane Shock are all guaranteed to be in the playoffs, with the Rattlers, Fighters, and Pirates also having clinched a home playoff game.

The remainder of the eight-team field, as well as one of the top four seeds, is still up for grabs, with every team except the Northern Arizona Wranglers still eligible for the playoffs.

The 2021 IFL Playoffs will be played over three consecutive weekends without any byes. The quarterfinal round will consist of the top-seeded team hosting the eighth-seeded team, while the second seed hosts the seventh seed, the third seed hosts the sixth seed, and the fourth seed hosts the fifth seed.

Once the postseason bracket has been established, teams will not be reseeded as they advance through to the next round.

The penultimate weekend of the regular season starts Friday night when the Spokane Shock (6-5) host the Arizona Rattlers (10-2). The Shock have lost three in a row but can go a long way toward clinching home field advantage in the first round of the playoffs with a home win.

On Saturday night the Sioux Falls Storm (5-6) travel to take on the Iowa Barnstormers (5-5), with both teams squarely in the postseason hunt. The Green Bay Blizzard (5-7) travel to Frisco (9-2) fighting for their postseason lives, while Duke City (6-6) looks to fend off an upset-minded Tucson Sugar Skulls (4-8) team that needs to win out in order to sneak into the postseason. Finally, Massachusetts (9-3) looks to lock in a top-three overall seed in its game at Northern Arizona (1-11).

All of the IFL action this weekend can be seen on the league's Youtube channel. Fans can also visit www.goifl.com to select the game they want to watch.
