Florida Everblades News Release
ESTERO, FL - The Florida Everblades are proud to announce that the team donated a total of $221,160 in cash, goods, and services to local charities during the 2015-16 season, an increase of $76,835 from the previous year.
The Everblades also donated more than 350 gift packs to local charities and non-profit organizations which were utilized for raffles and auctions which helped raise additional money.
The Blades Backers program which is underwritten by 13 local sponsors, contributed almost $60,000 to provide tickets to nearly 6,000 underprivileged children. The program serves as an example of the team working with its partners to provide a good service to the community.
In December, the team once again collected more than 7,000 teddy bears in the annual IBERIABANK Teddy Bear Toss game. The teddy bears and stuffed animals were distributed to local children's charities for the holidays.
The Everblades Golf Tournament in January was a huge success, raising $35,000 for the For the Kids Foundation which is an organization that helps improve the overall wellness of patients at the Golisano Children's Hospital.
In February, the Everblades raised $15,850 during its annual Pink in the Rink promotion which gives back to local cancer charities.
In addition, Everblades forward Rob Florentino was the recipient of the ECHL Community Service Award. Florentino became the first Everblades player to win the award for his countless hours serving the local community. He even cut his long flowing hair to donate to Wigs for Kids, while raising an additional $3,000 for the cause.
"We are very pleased with our community outreach and donations from this past season," said Everblades Vice President of Sales & Marketing Chris Palin. -"We once again had a significant increase in our cash and ticket donations. We will remain committed to continuing this upward trend of giving back to the communities of Southwest Florida."
In May, the ECHL announced that its member teams raised more than $4 million to charitable and non-profit organizations during the 2015-16 season.
