Evansville BlueCats News Release
EVANSVILLE, IN: The Evansville BlueCats (5-8) will take on the River City Rage (7-6) in the final game of a 3 game road trip this Saturday night at Family Arena in St. Charles, Missouri. Saturday's game is a rematch of the 2007 season opener for both teams, which took place back on March 24th at Roberts Stadium. The Rage came away with a 40-37 victory when River City kicker Derek Kutz defeated the BlueCats on a 43-yard field goal as time expired.
Kickoff for Saturday night is scheduled for 7:00pm and can be heard live in Evansville on News-Talk 1280 WGBF-AM or live on the web at www.103gbfrocks.com. Jimmie Ford will be on play-by-play, the pre-game show will start at 6:40pm.
Saturday's game will be the BlueCats first trip to Family Arena since May 8th, 2004, when the BlueCats won by a final score of 88-84 in a legendary contest that set numerous offensive and scoring records for both teams. The 172 combined total points in that game set a single game scoring record for the entire sport of indoor football that still stands more than 3 years later.
The BlueCats enter Saturday's game riding a two game win streak that has put them back in the UIF playoff race. Evansville finds themselves one game behind the Bloomington Extreme (6-7) in the UIF Eastern Conference standings with two games left to play in the regular season. Evansville hosts Bloomington in the season finale. Last week Evansville claimed a 44-20 victory against the Ohio Valley Greyhounds.
For the BlueCats to be successful on Saturday night, they'll have to find a way to contain River City Rage running back Muhammad Abdulqaadir who rushed for 112 yards and 3 touchdowns last weekend against the Billings Outlaws. Abdulqaadir leads the league in rushing average this season, with 61.2 rushing yards per game. Back in Week One against the BlueCats he ran for 91 yards and 2 touchdowns.
The BlueCats defense has plenty of talented players, including the last three in a row and four of the last five recipients of the UIF Defensive Player of the Week award. (AJ Bryant - Week 11, Deion Holts - Week 13, Hunter Pingston - Week 14, John Winchester - Week 15)
As a team, the Evansville BlueCats defense leads the league with 23 interceptions this season. The defense ranks second overall with 34 takeaways. Last week the BlueCats defense recorded 3 interceptions against the Ohio Valley Greyhounds, one each by AJ Bryant, Tez Morris, and Hunter Pingston. Bryant's 50-yard interception return for a touchdown was a new team record.
Be sure to Catch the Excitement of BlueCats football by tuning in to News-Talk 1280 WGBF-AM for live coverage of Saturday's game. Kickoff is set for 7:00pm with the pre-game show starting at 6:40pm. BlueCats fans can also listen live on the web at www.103gbfrocks.com.
