Lancaster JetHawks News Release

LANCASTER, CA - On a Monday night that started with a 26-minute delay for wet infield dirt, the JetHawks and Modesto Nuts put together the lowest scoring game of the season at The Hangar that ended in a 2-1 Lancaster win in 10 innings.

With runners at first and third and two out, Domingo Santana hit a ground ball into the hole at shortstop. Cristhian Adames back-handed the ball but his throw to first sailed high and pulled Helder Velazquez off of first allowing Springer to score the game-winning run.

Springer started the rally with a two-out against reliever Kurt Yacko (6-4). Erik Castro followed with a line drive base hit to right field moving Springer to third base to setup the game-ending play.

The game started with a 26-minute delay in the top of the first inning. While leadoff man Delta Cleary Jr. attempted to shake off a foul ball off his foot, manager Rodney Linares approached the umpires to express concern over the condition of the infield dirt. After discussing with the umpires, Linares pulled his team off the field because the dirt was deemed to be too wet to continue play. Grounds crew members poured new dirt on the infield and raked until it was ready for play.

Neither team seemed to be able to find a rhythm offensively after the delay. Starters Tyson Perez and Christian Bergman each put together solid outings.

Bergman, the Cal League leader with 12 wins, allowed four hits over six innings and struck out seven.

Lancaster took a 1-0 lead on Bergman in the bottom of the fifth. Ben Heath reached on a broken bat single to centerfield, moved to second when Alex Todd was hit by a pitch and scored on a Grant Hogue bloop single to centerfield.

Perez was not as efficient, allowing 10 hits over 6 2/3 innings. He was able to work out of trouble to throw six scoreless innings but he gave up a leadoff solo home run to Joey Wong in the top of the seventh to tie the game.

Carlos Quevedo (2-0) relieved Perez to pick up the final out of the seventh and went on to continue his dominance of Cal League hitters since being promoted from Lexington. The right-hander threw 3 1/3 scoreless innings allowing just one hit while striking out five without issuing a walk.

Nuts reliever Chad Rose was also solid, tossing three shutout frames allowing one hit and collecting three strikeouts.

With the rubber game win, the JetHawks (12-12, 49-45) ended the season series with a 5-4 advantage over the Nuts.

Lancaster begins a three game series with the San Jose Giants on Tuesday night at The Hangar. Bobby doran will start against Taylor Rogers. First pitch is at 7:00 pm on a Two 4 Tuesday & Trivia Night at the ballpark.
