Erie RiverRats Hire Mike Fox as Defensive Coordinator

(Erie, PA) - Head Coach Shawn Liotta of the Erie RiverRats of the American Indoor Football Association announced today the hiring of Mike Fox as the team's new Defensive Coordinator. Fox joins the RiverRats coaching staff after serving in the front office of the Quad City Steemwheelers of af2.

Fox served as a special consultant for the RiverRats coaching staff in Pittsburgh late last season. In 2006, he was the Defensive Backs Coach for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (af2), and from 2003 to 2005, was a Defensive Backs and Quality Control Assistant Coach for Quad City. Prior to 2003, Fox, an Iowa native, was an assistant coach at the high school level, working at Assumption High School and Waterloo East High School.

"Mike has a wealth of coaching experience at the professional level, having coached for 4 seasons in af2. His is an aggressive attacking coaching style, which should work real well with the collection of talent we have on the defensive side of the ball. I got to see Mike work with some of our players last year. I feel our defense is in very capable hands, and I couldn't be happier that Coach Fox will be joining us" commented Liotta.

Fox added "After a year away from coaching, I can't wait to get back on the field again. I'm also going to be assisting our front office with some sponsorship and group sales programs. Coach Liotta and the organization have a great thing going in Erie, and I'm real excited to be part of it."

The Erie RiverRats will start preseason training camp on February 24, 2008 at Hitters, Hackers & Hoops in New Castle, PA. The season begins on Sunday, March 9, 2008, when Erie hosts the Carolina Speed with kickoff scheduled for 3:05 PM.
