Erie Explosion Week 8 Notes

End of the Road...When the Explosion travel to Melvindale, Michigan to face the Detroit Thunder it will mark the team's final road game of the regular season. Erie will finish the regular season with two home games at the Erie Insurance Arena against Port Huron and Detroit.

Breakout Game... Explosion receiver Travis Tarpley who did not have a touchdown reception entering week 7 despite being second on the team in receptions had a coming out party against Port Huron. Tarpley had 8 receptions for 103 yards and 5 touchdowns as Erie improved to (5-2).

Who are These Guys...The Explosion have not faced the Detroit Thunder during the 2014 regular season. The Thunder enters the game with an (0-5) record but has turned over a majority of their roster over the past two weeks. Detroit took the undefeated Saginaw Sting to the wire before losing 49-35 last week.

Getting Healthy... The Explosion had several players return to action after suffering injuries early in the season. Linebacker Jon D'Angelo returned after sitting out last week and continued his dominating defensive play with a key interception in the first half that led to a quick Explosion touchdown as Erie built a 44-12 first half advantage.

High Scoring... Erie has outscored their opponents 149-42 over the past two weeks. The Explosion have outscored their opponents 221-88 during the 2014 season.

Nowhere to Run...The Explosion limited the Port Huron Patriots to 2 total yards rushing on 17 carries (0.12 yards per attempt).

Air Assault...Displaying the versatility of their offensive attack, one week after setting CIFL rushing records and not attempting a single pass the Explosion offense passed for 200 yards and 6 touchdowns. Quarterback Aaron Smetanka was 21-24 for 200 yards with six touchdowns and zero interceptions. Smetanka has not thrown an interception during the 2014 campaign.

The Erie Explosion (5-2) will travel to face the Detroit Thunder (0-5) on Sunday March 30 th at the Melvindale Civic Center in Melvindale, Michigan.
