Erie Explosion News Release
Erie, PA- The Erie Explosion have announced that defensive lineman Mike Robinson has signed a contract with the Philadelphia Soul of the Arena Football League for the 2013 season.
Robinson (6'4, 265) joins the Soul after playing for the Erie Explosion and Kansas City Command during the 2012 season. Robinson played in 12 games for the Erie Explosion in 2012 where he was named to the First Team All-League team following his league record 21 sacks and 14.5 tackles for a loss helping Erie to a berth in the Division Championship Game.
Following his standout season in Erie, Robinson had the opportunity to advance to the Kansas City Command of the Arena Football League where he played in three games including his breakout game against the Iowa Barnstormers where he tallied a sack, forced fumble, and blocked a kick.
Robinson took time to reflect on his time spent with the Erie Explosion, "Playing in Erie helped me to understand and develop my game for the Arena Football League. I was surrounded by coaches who understood the arena game and allowed me to develop my skills for the next level. The City of Erie welcomed me with open arms and was very supportive of our team. Erie is the best place for a player looking to advance his career; great ownership, great coaches, and the best fans in indoor football. It was the best experience that I have had playing football and I am very thankful to have been a part of such a top-notch organization. I look forward to continuing to advance my career and helping the Philadelphia Soul win a championship in 2013."
Robinson joined the Explosion following the 2011 season with the Huntington Hammer where he was named a First-Team All-League defensive end following his career at Nassau Community College where he was named a two time All-American Tight End.
"Mike Robinson was one of the most dominant defensive linemen in indoor football during the 2012 season. He has all of the tools to succeed in the Arena Football League and beyond. The Philadelphia Soul are not only getting an outstanding football player but a high character individual who will be an asset to the community. It was a pleasure having Mike with our franchise last year and we are extremely pleased that his hard work has paid off and he has an opportunity to advance his career at the next level," commented Erie Head Coach Shawn Liotta.
The Erie Explosion have had 12 former players sign an AFL or CFL contract over the past two seasons. For information on the Erie Explosion visit www.erieexplosion.com for upcoming events and the latest news as the franchise prepares for the 2013 season.
