Erie Explosion News Release

(Fraser, MI)- The Erie Explosion traveled to face the Detroit Thunder in a CIFL North Division game, but returned home with a forfeit victory when the Detroit playing surface was deemed to be unplayable by CIFL officials. The Explosion had arrived at the Fraser Hockeyland Arena on Sunday Morning and were prepared to play the game prior to Detroit forfeiting the game two hours prior to kickoff. The Explosion move to 6-2 on the season and will now enter a bye week before facing the Port Huron Patriots on Sunday April 13th at the Erie Insurance Arena with kickoff scheduled for 2 pm.

Explosion Head Coach Shawn Liotta commented on the situation in Detroit, "Obviously we are disappointed that we did not get to play the Detroit Thunder today. Our players worked hard all week to prepare for this game, however the Detroit playing surface was not acceptable. It was not in the best interest for the safety of our players to attempt playing on such a surface under any conditions. It was an unfortunate situation for the Detroit Thunder, and the CIFL and I give them credit for making the responsible decision that this game not be played in these conditions."

The Explosion were officially awarded a (2-0) victory with the forfeit. "We obviously like to earn our victories on the field of play. We are going to take the bye week to get some guys healthy and will begin our preparations for the Port Huron Patriots and our run towards the 2014 CIFL Championship," commented Head Coach Shawn Liotta.
