Erbe Shuts Down Hillcats

Last night it was hitting, today it was pitching. The Frederick Keys won their second straight game, beating the Lynchburg Hillcats 2-0.

Frederick starter, Brandon Erbe, threw five strong innings of shut out baseball. The second-year Keys pitcher allowed just two hits, walked one, and struck out five. Jake Renshaw, Wilfrido Perez, and Kyle Schmidt got Frederick to the ninth. Closer Jason Burch slammed the door shut, picking up his first save of the season.

Catching prospect, Matt Wieters, again was heavily involved in the Keys run-scoring. Wieters gave the Keys their first lead in the bottom of the first on an RBI single, driving in Chris Amador, who had reached on a single and stole second. Wieters walked in the fourth, and came around to score the Keys second run on a Brandon Tripp base knock.

Baltimore Orioles 2006 first round pick Bill Rowell sat out the game. The third baseman tweaked his ankle trying to beat out an infield single in his first at bat of the season. Todd Davison got the start in his place.

The Keys will try to make it a clean sweep of the Hillcats tomorrow afternoon, at Harry Grove Stadium. Frederick will send right-hander Pedro Beato to the hill for his first start in the Carolina League. Michael Crotta gets the call for Lynchburg. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00.
