Brookings Blizzard News Release
On Saturday the Blizzard hosted the Minot Minotauros in their home finale, winning the game 5-2.
The Blizzard could not have asked for a better way to wrap up the 2013-2014 season. Not only did the team said goodbye to 10 veteran players who played in the final game of their junior careers, they did so in a convincing fashion. The Blizzard defeated the Minot Minotauros 5-2 in front of a backed Larson Ice Center on Saturday night. And did we mention one lucky fan went home with a new car from Brookings Auto Mall?
The Blizzard came out of the gate a little flat to start the game and found themselves in a one to nothing hole at the end of the first period. Austin Kilian scored a power play goal for the Tauros at the 5:48 mark of the first period. The goal was assists by Luke Voltin and Troy Degler.
In the second the Tauros increased their lead when Cameron Rowat scored just 3:07 into the period off the assists from Quinn Fuchs and Casey Johnson.
The Blizzard would respond just two minutes later when Jared Goudreau scored the first of his two goals off the assists from Beau Michaud and Brandon Parker.
Conor Andrle and Jack Stang each scored later in the period to give the Blizzard a 3-2 lead going into the second intermission. Conrad Sampair and Joe Nathe assisted on the Andrle finish and Joey Lindberg had the assist on Stang's goal.
In the third period, Russ Jordan made a great play driving to the net while the Blizzard were trying to kill a penalty midway through the third period, and scored to give the Blizzard a 4-2 lead.
Goudreau would finish off the Tauros scoring on an empty net with 1:32 left to play in the game.
The excitement on the ice Saturday night was only half of the fireworks. During the second intermission three contestants had a chance to participate in a puck shootout challenge for a chance to win a new car from Brookings Auto Mall. The contests had to shoot a very small target, just slightly bigger than the puck it self, from the opposite blue line. If one of the contestants made the shot they would win a new car from Brookings Auto Mall. The first two contestants missed the target but lucky contestant number three made the two-thirds length shot to win the car. CLICK HERE to see a video of the shot on www.hockey605.com.
The Blizzard also recognized their billet and host families during the game and welcomed player's parents and families to the game.
