Enforcer Cornish to Return

July 15, 2003 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Laredo Bucks News Release

The Laredo Bucks have signed right wing Jeremy Cornish to a contract for the 2003-2004 season. With 159 penalty minutes in 40 games last season, Cornish helped Laredo top the Central Hockey League in major penalties with 111 and helped the Bucks reach the Southern Conference Finals in their inaugural CHL season.

"Jeremy was a guy I needed to bring in for his physical presence," says Head Coach/General Manager Terry Ruskowksi. "I heard so much about what a team guy he is, and he didn't let us down in that area. He's a great team guy. He's still learning the game, still getting better at different aspects of it. He's the type of guy who wants to get better and learn, and he's great in the dressing room. Jeremy is the ultimate team guy. To have his presence on the ice last year, it made everyone else a little taller. To bring him back means a lot to our team because of his attitude, his willingness to learn, and his improvement from the year before. He was a very important part of our team, and he will be a very important part of our team for the upcoming season."

Cornish, 23, is a 6-3, 220-pound forward from London, Ontario. In addition to his 159 penalty minutes, Cornish scored two goals and added seven assists during the Bucks' inaugural campaign. Before coming to Laredo, Cornish earned 153 penalty minutes in 18 games for Flint of the United Hockey League. In 2001-02, Cornish played 41 games in San Angelo, posting three points and 187 penalty minutes. Cornish had previous stops in Port Huron (UHL) and Dayton (ECHL). The upcoming season will be his third in professional ice hockey.

The Laredo Bucks are the CHL Franchise of the Year. Season tickets are on sale now. Call (956) 718-BUCKS or visit www.laredobucks.com for more information.
