OKLAHOMA CITY - OKC Energy FC re-signed Casey Townsend for the 2016 season, the club's front office announced today.

Townsend returns for a second year in OKC, after leading the team with 6 assists and tying for fourth on the club with 8 total points in 2015.

"I can't wait for this season to start," said Townsend. "Playing for Energy FC last year, in front of the best fans in the league, was awesome and I can't wait to be in that atmosphere again."

The former captain of the University of Maryland men's soccer club earned honors as an NSCAA Second Team All-American, MAC Hermann Trophy semifinalist, and first team All-ACC Championship Tournament Team as a freshman, and again as a junior. Townsend was hailed as one of the nation's best goal scorers after notching 17 goals as a senior.

Townsend's professional career began with Chivas USA in 2012, where he saw action in 17 games, including 10 starts.

"Casey is a great team player," said Energy FC General Manager Jason Hawkins. "His ball handling skills and his ability to set up goals for the other guys are a great asset to the team. We're looking forward to having him again this year."

The addition of Townsend brings the number of players signed by Energy FC to 15. He joins Michael Harris, Michael Byskov, Jordan Rideout, Sebastian Dalgaard, Danni Konig, Cyprian Hedrick, Peter Toth, Daniel Gonzalez, Chuy Sanchez, Coady Andrews, Kalen Ryden, and goaltenders Cody Laurendi and Ray Clark and newcomer Luis Martinez as players officially signed for the 2016 season.

Energy FC host FC Dallas in a preseason match at historic Taft Stadium in Oklahoma City on February 27. Season Seat Holders Tickets are available by contacting the Energy office at 235-KICK or visiting energyfc.com.
