Spokane Empire News Release

SPOKANE, Wash. - The Spokane Empire released a statement today regarding the recent announcement by Tri-Cities Fever Owner Teri Carr on the team's decision to go dormant and not participate in the 2017 Indoor Football League Season.

"We are saddened to hear the decision that the Fever have decided to suspend play for the 2017 Indoor Football League season," said Empire General Manager Ryan Eucker. "Teri Carr and the Tri-Cities organization have been fantastic partners for the Empire and played a vital role in our team's inaugural season as a member of the IFL."

Tri-Cities and Spokane was not only a regional rivalry during the 2016 IFL season, but one with a rich history dating back to the af2 which established the two franchises as tenured members within the ranks of indoor and arena football.

Despite the Fever's plans to go dormant next season, the Spokane Empire plan to continue their participation in the Indoor Football League in 2017.

The Empire is not only focused on producing a family-friendly sports entertainment environment and maintaining a winning tradition but to continue to serve as a contributing member of the Inland Northwest communities on and off the field.

"We hope that the recent news of Tri-Cities's decision to go dormant in 2017 may serve as a positive call to action that the support of the community is paramount to the success of any sports organization," said Eucker. "Spokane has fielded an indoor football team for over ten years and hopes to for years to come with our city's continuing passion for its team."

The Empire will host the Intense Conference Championship on Sunday, July 17 with a 4:00 p.m. PT kickoff at Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena. Tickets are currently on sale via TicketsWest online at www.ticketswest.com, by phone at 800-325-SEAT (7328), and at all TicketsWest box office locations.
