Elvir Kafedzic Named Offensive Player of the Week
December 5, 2005 - Major Indoor Soccer League 2 (MISL 2)
St. Louis Steamers News Release
ST. LOUIS - For the second straight week, a member of the Steamers has been rewarded with a Player of the Week honor by the MISL. While last week goalkeeper Brett Phillips took home the prize, this week, Elvir Kafedzic was honored with the MISL Offensive Player of the Week.
As recently as Saturday, Elvir Kafedzic, who will turn 23 on the 19th of December, was a virtual unknown in the MISL. Sunday's performance likely changed that. The Steamers first pick in February's 2005 College Draft, came through with three consecutive goals, including the game-winner, in the midst of the St. Louis' 8-1 victory over the California Cougars on Sunday night. The win evened St. Louis' record at 2-2.
For the native of Bosnia, who played in three games for the Steamers in 2004-05, and has played in three games this season. He also became the first Steamers player to score three goals in a game this season. Following the action at Savvis Center, Kafedzic was presented with a "game ball" by Steamers CEO and Owner Michael Hetelson. Prior to being drafted by the Steamers, Kafedzic led Lindenwood University in St. Charles, MO to the NAIA National Championship in 2004. He also played for and attended Affton High School in St. Louis County.
The Steamers next home game is this Saturday, December 10 at 1:05 p.m. Tickets can be purchased by calling the Steamers offices at (314) 241-4625.
