July 6, 2016 - Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League (PGCBL)
Elmira Pioneers News Release
The Pioneers looked to continue their hot streak as the Newark Pilots visited Historic Dunn Field to battle with the Pioneers for second place in the West Division of the PGCBL Standings.
The Pilots would take advantage of a couple of Pioneer mistakes to take a one run lead in the top of the fourth. However, the Pioneers would tie it up at one thanks to an RBI groundout by Ty Denzer (Kansas). With runners at second and third, Zeke Lewis (Kentucky) would hit one down the firstbase line. The ball would find a hole in the glove of the Pilot Chase Cockrell (Hinds C.C.) as Tyler Plantier (UC San Diego) and Phil Madonna (Siena) would come in to give the Pios the lead 3-1.
After the Pilots knocked in two runs in the sixth to tie the score at three, the Pioneers would break open the game in the bottom of the sixth with six runs which was sparked by a long single by Kyle Ruth (LIU Brooklyn). After that an RBI single by Lewis, an RBI fielders choice by Troy Dixon (Samford), and RBI singles by Rob Perteet (Samford) and Plantier would put the Pios up 9-3.
Plantier would single in an insurance run in the eighth to bring the score 10-3 but the Pilots would repond with a run of their own in the top of the ninth but reliever Zack Helsel (Liberty U.) would strike out three Pilot batters to end the game.
Andrew Sipowicz (Cansius) would earn the win pitching six innings, giving up three runs (two earned) on four hits but struck out seven Pilots. Solomon Bates (USC) would pitch five and a third innings in the loss giving up five runs (two earned) on three hits and walked five batters. Also making appearnaces for Elmira would be Ethan Daily (U. of Louisiana at Monroe) who struck out two in a scorless inning and Stephen Arnsten (Manhattan) who also had a one-two-three inning.
On Friday, July 8th, your Pioneers face the Pilots again at home at 7:05 p.m. This game will feature Save-A-Lot Koozie night at Dunn Field!
