Elmira Defeats Geneva, 9-4
Elmira got it going with some crazy plays at the bottom of third. Troy Dixon (Samford) hit a long ball to right field on top of the wall which was initially ruled a home run. After deliberation between the umpires, it was ruled an RBI ground rule double. Storm Wilson (Kentucky) would be brought in to score on an obstruction call. Following the weird sequence of events, Phil Madonna (Siena) would hit a RBI ground rule double to put the Pioneers up 3-0.
Jason Patnick (Manhattan) kept the hits going with a long shot to left field to put the Pioneers up 4-0. The Pioneers would also take advantage of an error by the Red Wings to score two more runs in the top of the fifth to bring Elmira up 6-0.
Geneva would stop the scoreless drought in the bottom of the sixth to bring the score 6-1 in favor of Elmira. However, back to back RBI singles by Ty Denzer (Kansas) and Joe Preziuso (Cansisus) would put on two runs in the top of the seventh. Patnick would finish the scoring in the seventh with a sacrifice fly to center to put Elmira into a commanding 9-1 lead.
Geneva would try to rally back with a run in the bottom of the seventh and two runs in the bottom of the ninth to rally but Elmira would put Geneva away 9-4.
Andrew Sipowicz (Canisius) would earn the win, throwing six innings giving up one run on six hits and striking out three. Andy Reed (Elmira College) takes the loss giving up six runs on seven hits while striking out three batters as well.
