The Elks took down the Corvallis Knights 3-1 in Corvallis Wednesday night. Combined Elks pitching kept the Knights off balance allowing them only 4 hits.
Jesse Pratt took the hill for his first start of the season, throwing 3.2 innings giving up the one and only Corvallis run on 3 hits while striking out 5 Knights. Kevin Sheets got his 2nd win of the season after coning in to relieve Pratt in the 4th. Sheets pitched 3.2 innings giving up one hit while striking out 4 and walking none. Louis Cohen finished the game coming in the 8th with one out and a runner on. He struck out the two batters he faced to get out of the inning unscathed. Cohen faced a total of 7 Corvallis batters, striking out 4 of the 7 he faced, giving Cohen his 7th save of the season. The Elks scored their first run in the 3rd when Zack Close led things off with a single then stole second before Nick Osuna's RBI single allowed Close to score, tying the game up at one each. Billy King then doubled, allowing the final Elks run of the evening to score.
With the Elks win tonight and the win by the Wenatchee Applesox in 10 innings Kelowna B.C., the Elks continue to have a 1 game lead over the Applesox for the wildcard spot with four game still yet to be played to finish off the regular season.
