Bend Elks News Release
The Elks only managed three hits on the night, but seven quality innings from Daniel Chavez, two critical errors from Walla Walla early on, and a solo home run from Jordan Brower in the top of the seventh would give the Elks the series win, beating the Sweets on Friday by a score of 3-2.
The Elks got on the board first in the top of the second as Tyler Christian drew a lead-off walk, then Royce Bollinger hit a groundball to third that resulted in an error by third baseman Kalani Breckenridge, allowing Christian to get to third. After two outs, Royce Bollinger attempted to steal second, but a throwing error on the catcher allowed Christian to score, making the game 1-0.
Walla Walla scored two in the bottom of the second after a leadoff double, Daniel Chavez hit a batter and walked the next one, loading the bases with nobody out. That brought up Breckenridge, who came through with an RBI single, tying the game at 1. The next hitter Hawk hit into a double play, scoring the second run in the inning, giving the Sweets a 2-1 lead.
The Elks came back to tie the game in the top of the third as Donald Collins drew a one out walk, stole second, then scored on an RBI double from Michael Benjamin, tying the game at 2. That would be all of the scoring until the top of the seventh when Jordan Brower collected his only hit of the night, a 2 out solo home run that would prove to be the game winner, giving the Elks the 3-2 lead.
The Elks begin 3 games with the Corvallis Knights tomorrow, Games 1 and 2 to be played in Corvallis, and game 3 to be played Monday in Bend.
