Cowlitz Black Bears News Release
Longview-Kelso: Facing the All-Star starter for the East team, runs figured to be at a premium as the Cowlitz Black Bears looked to sweep the home series against the Bellingham Bells. Kevin Bosson (Cal Poly Pomona) had other ideas.
Bosson outdueled his counterpart, pitching a complete-game shutout, the team's fourth such feat this summer. Bosson was in control, striking out six Bells without allowing a walk. He gave up three consecutive hits in the 2nd inning-all singles-but only gave up two more hits the rest of the way.
Greg Velazquez (Cal St. Fullerton) scored the first run of the game in the 2nd inning when he reached on an error, stole second, and then came in to score on a two-base error by the Bells' catcher. Bailey Graham (LCC) led off the 3rd inning with a single to begin what wound up being a three-for-four performance with two runs scored. Spencer O'Neil (University of Oregon) drove him in with a single of his own. Beau Didier (LSU) capped the inning with a two-run double as the Black Bears scored four in the inning. Kyle Garlick (University of Oregon) started slowly by grounding into a double play and striking out, but finished strong with a solo home run and a two-RBI triple in the 7th as Cowlitz poured it on.
The team leaves tomorrow for Kitsap, but returns on August 2nd for the start of four home games with a match against the WCL Portland All-Stars. Come on out for Azteca $2 Tuesday, where beer, hot dogs, tickets, and soda are all $2. It will also be Longview Schools Honor Roll Night. After that, the Walla Walla Sweets come to Story Field for a weekend series beginning August 5th with Las Rocas Fabulous Friday and Bark In The Park presented by Pet Works. The first 100 fans will receive a Black Bears dog bowl courtesy of Pet Works.
