
Elks Sweep Corvallis, off to Championship Series

The Bend Elks returned to Vince Genna Stadium Wednesday evening and beat the Corvallis Knights 5-2 to sweep the wildcard Knights to take the best of three division game series 2-0. The Elks are now back in the Championship Series for the first time since 2010.
The Elks put the first run across the plate in bottom of the second on an error from the pitcher on a pick off attempt that allowed Cooper Hummel to score the first run of the game for Bend.
The Knights put a run on in the 4th from a Cameron Bishop solo home run off of starting Pitcher Jordan Wilcox to tie the game at 1 each. The Elks wasted no time taking the lead back in the bottom of the 4th, bringing 3 runs across the plate and giving Bend a 4-1 lead at the end of 4.
Corvallis managed to get their final run off of Bend pitching in the top of the 6th when Christian Donahue singled, then Michael Farris doubled to bring Donahue home. That would be the last run for the Corvallis Knights for the 2015 season. Cadyn Grenier walked to lead off the 7th and eventually scored the final run, an insurance run for Bend. Corvallis made things interesting in the 9th by loading the bases with 2 outs before closer Daniel Bies struck out the the final Knight, leaving the bases loaded with the go ahead run at the plate to end the game. Final score Bend 5, Corvallis 2.
Starter Jordan Wilcox gets the win for the Elks and Alex Nesbitt takes the loss for Corvallis.
The Elks are waiting to see who the will face in the upcoming WCL Championship Series. Wednesday, the Kelowna Falcons shutout the Bellingham Bells 6-0 in Kelowna B.C. to even that series at 1 game each. The final game of that best of 3 series is set for Thursday evening in Kelowna, B.C. The winner of that game will host the Bend Elks Saturday night for game one of the best of 3 series. The Championship Series returns to Vince Genna Stadium Monday night for game 2, and Tuesday evening for game 3 if needed.
