Elks Split Squad Loses 5-3 Wednesday
July 11, 2012 - West Coast League (WCL)
Bend Elks News Release
The Elks split squad, the Central Oregon Bucks, mustered two runs in the bottom of the 9th but fell short in their rally, falling to the Walnut Creek Crawdads by a score of 5-3.
It was a terrific pitcher's duel for most of the game as there was not a single hit on the board for either team until the bottom of the 5th inning when Sky Kelley delivered the one out single off of Walnut Creek starter Jeffrey Doran, but Doran was in control for most of the night. Doran pitched 7 innings, giving up 1 run on 4 hits while striking out 5 in picking up the win.
Dillon Keene was equally impressive in the game, but comes up the hard-luck loser for the Bucks. Keene pitched 7 and 1/3 innings, giving up 3 runs, 2 earned, on 2 hits and struck out 5, but it simply wasn't enough.
The Bend Elks come back for West Coast League play Thursday against the Bellingham Bells for Bark in the Park night, sponsored by the Humane Society of Central Oregon.
