WCL Bend Elks

Elks Split Double Header with 3-0 win and 5-1 Loss

July 31, 2012 - West Coast League (WCL)
Bend Elks News Release

It was a tale of two games for the Bend Elks and the Cowlitz Black Bears on Tuesday night as the two teams split the double header. The Elks took game 1 with a 3-0 shutout, and then fell in the nightcap by a score of 5-2.

For the Elks in game 1, Brent Jones was of big benefit for the Elks. Jones went 5 innings in getting the win, giving up no runs on one hit, walking four and striking out 3. Derek Peterson and Jordan Spencer pitched the final 2 innings to secure the victory, with Spencer getting the save.

Offensively for the Elks in Game 1, Will Sparks went 2-3 and scored twice, and Cullen Hendrickson went 1-2 with an RBI double and scored the Elks other run.

The 2nd game for the Bend Elks was not nearly as good, as the Elks managed just two hits while dropping the game 5-1.

Elks starter Travis Radke got the loss while pitching only three innings, giving up two runs on two hits, while walking 2 and striking out 4. Unfortunately, it was a throwing error by Radke on a sacrifice bunt in the 3rd that led to the start of the scoring for the Black Bears. Cowlitz scored 2 runs in the 3rd and 3 runs in the 5th to win the game.

Jake Azevedo drove in the Elks only run with a Sac Fly in the 3rd to score Darian Ramage, who had walked to reach base earlier in the inning.
