Kelowna Falcons News Release

Kelowna, BC: The Kelowna Falcons dropped a heartbreaker on Monday night, falling 7-6 to the visiting Wenatchee Applesox. In the playoff picture, the loss pushes the Falcons back to 2.5 games behind idle Bellingham for the final playoff spot in the East Division.

On the Monday night the Sox again jumped out to a 1-0 lead in their first at bats, thanks to a two-out rally against Falcons' starter Cale Coshow.

The Falcons would finally tie it in the bottom of the fourth on a crazy play that would eventually see Tucker Alexander score.

The very next inning, the Sox would score three times on two hits to take a 4-1 lead. Jeff Stephens, Ty Moore and Ryan Howell all with RBI base hits. Two of the three runs were unearned.

The Falcons would get one back in the bottom of the fifth, cutting the lead in half after Jerry McClanahan recorded his 12th RBI of the season on a sac fly.

In the sixth the Falcons would creep within one after a two out RBI base hit by Tyler Qualls, recording RBI #15.

After Wenatchee reclaimed a two run lead in the seventh, the Falcons came right back to take their first lead of the series. After a double by Kyle Pearson, McClanahan would follow suite and bring home two runs on his seventh double of the year, giving the Falcons a 6-5 advantage.

It was short lived however, as the Applesox scored twice in the eighth off David Cagle to take the lead for good.

The Falcons would compile 13 hits and score six times as Cagle suffers his first loss of the summer. Patrick Johnson led the charge with three hits, while Qualls, Andrew Firth, Greg Friesen and Alexander each had two hits.

Game three of this series goes on Tuesday night when the Falcons (26-21) host the Applesox (30-15). It's also the second last home game of the regular season. 7-1 Brandon Marris will start for the Falcons. Last time Marris faced the Applesox he would throw 8.2 innings and shutout them out 5-0. The first pitch is scheduled for 6:35pm on Shaw's Mexican Night. Enjoy some great Mexican food and tunes all night long.
