WCL Bend Elks

Elks Ride Quality Pitching to 2-1 Win Over Kelowna Falcons

June 22, 2011 - West Coast League (WCL)
Bend Elks News Release

The Bend Elks scored 6 runs in the 4th, due in part to a grand slam by Cullen Hendrickson, but the Kelowna Falcons made the game interesting in the bottom of the 8th after scoring 7 with a grand slam of their own, but the Elks were able to hold off the Falcons, winning by a score of 9-8.

The Elks got on the board first in the top of the 2nd after a Tyler Christian double plated Shawn O'Brien and a Derek Blankenship single scored Jordan Brower. Then in the 3rd, the Elks sent 11 men to the plate, collecting 5 hits and 3 walks in the inning, highlighted by the grand slam by Hendrickson, plating the 3 runners on base and helping to extend the league to 8-0.

The Elks seemed as though they would cruise to victory after they added one in the 7th to make the score 9-1. Then in the bottom of the 8th, the Falcons would send 10 men to the plate, gathering 3 singles and 4 walks before Greg Friesen stepped to the plate and capped the 7 run 8th inning with a grand slam of his own, making the score 9-8. But the Elks would hold off the Falcons for the final 2 innings, and clinch a series victory.

The Elks will attempt to sweep the Falcons tomorrow, first pitch scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
