Elks Release Defensive Back Ed Gainey

EDMONTON - The Edmonton Elks have released defensive back Ed Gainey, the club announced Tuesday.

The CFL veteran spent the last two seasons in Edmonton, where he recorded 79 total tackles, one sack, two interceptions and three forced fumbles in 30 games for the Double E.

A two-time CFL All-Star (2017, 2018), Gainey has also played for the Montreal Alouettes (2012, 13) Hamilton Tiger-Cats (2014, 2015) and Saskatchewan Roughriders (2016 - 2021). Over 156 regular season games, the North Carolina native has 390 defensive tackles, 25 interceptions and eight forced fumbles.

2024 marks the 75th season of pro football in Edmonton, as the Elks open a new CFL campaign on Saturday, June 8 against the Saskatchewan Roughriders at Commonwealth Stadium. Season tickets are available now, with all youth season tickets $75 (17 and under) and adult tickets starting at $175.
