Elks Pitchers combine on 4 hit Shutout, Elks beat Sweets 1-0
June 27, 2012 - West Coast League (WCL)
Bend Elks News Release
One run is all the Bend Elks needed on Tuesday night in Walla Walla as the Elks had 4 pitchers combine on a four hit shutout of the Walla Walla Sweets, and Jordan Copeland hit an RBI single to provide the Elks with all of their offense in a 1-0 victory.
In the top half of the second inning, Tommy Pluschkell was issued a 4 pitch leadoff walk against Sweets starter Arturo Reyes (2-1) who would end up going the distance in the loss. After he was sacrificed to second base by Parker Guinn, Jordan Copeland hit a bloop single down the right field line to let Pluschkell score from 1st to give the Elks the only run of the ballgame.
That would be all the Elks pitching staff would need as 3 arms who did not make the trip to Kelowna, Canada were ready to go and had great outings against the Walla Walla Sweets, who had their 3 game win streak snapped. Patrick Keane, Daniel Chavez, Jordan Spencer, and Trevor Hildenberger would give up 4 hits, walking one and striking out 7 in the game. Daniel Chavez would end up getting the win in his new role as a reliever, and was very effective. Chavez went 3 scoreless innings, retiring all 9 hitters he faced while striking out 3.
Game 2 of the 3 game series will take place on Wednesday, first pitch at 7:05. Fans can catch all the action from Walla Walla by tuning into bendelks.com and clicking the "listen live" microphone on the right hand side of the page.
