July 13, 2011 - West Coast League (WCL)
Bend Elks News Release

The long, strenuous travels of the Bend Elks caught up with them on Tuesday night as the Elks, who have played 21 games in the last 25 days, came out flat against the Cowlitz Black Bears, giving up 9 runs in the top of the 2nd and fell to the Cowlitz Black Bears by a score of 11-2.

In the 9 run 2nd inning, the Black Bears sent 12 hitters to the plate, tallying 7 hits and 2 walks, and it was all capped by a Grand Slam with 2 outs by Bears left fielder Spencer O Neil to make the score 9-0. After that, both teams wouldn't do much until the 7th inning, where Cowlitz plated a run on a 2 out error by Elks shortstop Ryan Dunn, who had a groundball go between his legs.

In the bottom of the 7th, Kyle Buchanan got on after a throwing error by Cowlitz third baseman Beau Didier, and came around to score on an RBI single from Toby DeMello, who had 3 of the Elks 4 hits on the night. DeMello would eventually score on a 2 out single from Donald Collins, making the score 10-2. Cowlitz added one in the top of the 9th after a bases loaded walk forced Braxton Miller home, providing the final 11-2 tally.

The Elks and Black Bears will play again tomorrow night at Vince Genna Stadium for game 2 of the series, first pitch set for 6:35.
