
Elks Fall to Sweets 6-2

The Bend Elks could not take advantage of opportunities on Wednesday night, stranding four runners at third base, 11 overall, as they fell to the Walla Walla Sweets 6-2.
Shawn O'Brien hit his first home run of the 2012 season to get the scoring started in the top of the second to give the Elks a 1-0 lead. O'Brien extended the Elks lead in the 4th with an RBI single to score Shaun Chase and give the Elks a 2-0 lead.
The rest of the way would be all about the Walla Walla Sweets, as they scored one in the fourth, one in the 6th, and broke it open in the 8th inning against Elks closer Trevor Hildenberger (0-1), who surrendered 4 runs on 4 hits, 2 of them triples, to give the Sweets the lead. It started with a 1 out double from Brett Jacobs, after Spencer O'Neil was issued a four pitch walk, Shane Zeile came through with a 2 run triple in the right center gap to break the 2-2 tie. After an RBI single from Chance Kopacz, Ryan Cooper came on and hit an RBI triple of his own to give the Sweets their final 6-2 margin.
The Rubber Match of the 3 game series between the Elks and the Sweets will take place in Walla Walla Thursday, first pitch at 7:05. The Elks return home on Friday for Smolich Motors Silipint night against the Cowlitz Black Bears at Vince Genna Stadium.
