Bend Elks News Release
The Bend Elks were down by one run heading to the top of the 9th, but Cowlitz Black Bears closer Taylor Williams shut the door on the Elks to give the Black Bears a 3-2 victory.
The Bend Elks starter Dillon Keene did not have his best outing on Tuesday night. Keene took the loss, pitching 3 innings, giving up all 3 runs to Cowlitz in the 3rd inning, a total of 7 hits while striking out 1. The Elks bullpen was brilliant on Tuesday as Kyle Doyle and Josh Moss, making his first appearance for the Elks on Tuesday night, pitched a combined 5 innings, giving up 2 hits while striking out 5.
At the plate for the Elks, Will Sparks improved his WCL leading average to .404 with 2 hits on the night, Grant Newton had a pinch hit single for the Elks in the top of the 8th to cut the lead to 3-2, but the Elks would manage no more against Williams, who was credited with a save.
The Elks slim playoff hopes are still alive as Klamath Falls lost to Corvallis on Tuesday, but the Elks need to win their final 2 games, with losses by Klamath in their final 2 to secure the final playoff spot. Elks play Wednesday against the Cowlitz Black Bears, first pitch at 6:35.
