Bend Elks News Release
July did not begin the way the Bend Elks would have preferred, as Bend committed 6 errors and gave up 15 runs in the game, falling to the Falcons 15-8.
The Elks (15-9) looked like they were in a good position early as they jumped out on top of the Falcons in the bottom of the 1st as Landon Cray singled and Keach Ballard walked to kicked off the first inning, and Turner Gill followed with a single to load the bases with nobody out. Landon Cray then took home on a wild pitch for the first run of the game, Grant Newton and Kyle Giusti were issued back to back walks to bring in the 2nd, and Anthony Villa had a 2 run single to give the Elks a 4-1 lead after the 1st inning.
From that point on however, it was all Kelowna (6-15) the rest of the way as the Falcons put a 6 spot on the board in the 2nd and 7th innings to run away from the Elks early and put them away for good late to secure the victory and avoid a season series sweep at the hands of the Elks, who went 5-1 against Kelowna in 2013.
The Bend Elks begin a 3 game series, 2 at Vince Genna Stadium and 1 at Kiger Stadium, against the Klamath Falls Gems, first pitch Tuesday at 6:35 p.m.
