Bells Drop Both Ends of Double Header in Kitsap

Offense was at a premium throughout the pair of make-up games in Kitsap, and the Bells came up on the wrong end in each half of the seven inning double header.

Jason Hager pitched well and got credit for a complete game, but picked up the loss, as the Bells managed only one run in game one. A strong six inning, two run performance from the lefty wasn't enough, as Kitsap starter TJ Murphy, who picked up his third win on the season, controlled the offense.

Six different Bells would pick up base hits, but Murphy and reliever Danny Thompson combined to allow only one run on six hits. The Bells would get their only run in the 5th inning, as Johnny Sewald picked up the RBI on a sacrifice fly scoring Jack Meggs to tie the game at 1-1. But Kitsap would answer with three consecutive singles in the bottom of the frame, the final one off the bat of Daniel Jewett, who picked up the eventual game winning RBI, scoring Duncan Hendrickson.

Danny Thompson would get out of a bases loaded jam in the 6th, and would work around a one out single from Ryan Yamane in the 7th to pick up his first save of 2013.

It would be much of the same an hour later in game two. Crafty left-handed starter Ty Donahou would hold the Bells to two runs in 4.2 IP to pick up the victory, as the BlueJackets defeated the Bells 6-2. Jake Paulson would go the complete six, picking up the loss, allowing six earned runs. Though Paulson would pitch much better than the final line.

Bellingham would score first as Ryan Yamane would pick up his first of three hits, bringing Johnny Farrington home. Kitsap would answer in the bottom of the frame with an RBI single from the leadoff hitter Danny Sheehan.

Kitsap would take the lead for good in the bottom of the 4th, scoring two runs on four hits, highlighted by an RBI base hit by Connor Jones. Ahead 3-2 in the bottom of the 6th, Kitsap would break it open, as Connor Jones would do it again. This time, Jones would launch his 1st homerun of the season over the RF wall, which began a three run rally for Kitsap that put the game out of reach. The Bells would threaten in the 7th, but with runners on 1st and 2nd, Yamane, who totaled four hits on the day, would ground into a game ending double play, that capped a rough day at the park for the Bells.

Bellingham dropped to 11-9, while Kitsap ran their winning streak to five, and sits at 9-15. Bellingham will head to Corvallis for a three game set on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday with the Knights, as they look to break their three game losing streak.
