Bend Elks News Release
The Bend Elks battled with the Kitsap Blue Jackets until the bottom of the 11th inning, when Jake Gallaway's infield single to 2nd base brought Jordan Ellis around to score the game winning run, leading the Blue Jackets to the 4-3 victory.
The Bend Elks scored two runs in the top of the 2nd inning to take an early lead. With runners on 1st and 2nd with one out, Shawn O'Brien drove an RBI single to give the Elks the early lead. After Tommy Pluschkell struck out, Shawn O'Brien went to stole 2nd base and the throw from Kitsap catcher Ben Grubb went into center field, allowing Grant Newton to score, giving the Elks the 2-0 lead.
The Blue Jackets came back in the bottom of the 4th inning to score 2 runs against Elks starter Travis Radke, who got the no decision in the game.
That was the score until the top of the 9th inning, when the Elks had runners at 2nd and 3rd with 1 out when Zane Yanzick came to the plate. Zane struck out swinging on a pitch in the dirt, so when Grubb had to throw out Yanzick at 1st, Bo Walter broke for home and dove in safely to give the Elks the 3-2 lead.
The lead didn't last long as the Blue Jackets came back to score in the bottom of the 9th when Kasey Chapan led off the inning in the 9th, reached 3rd with 2 outs when Derek Peterson's 2nd pitch rolled under the legs of Kyle Gallegos, allowing Chapan to score and tie the game at 3.
In the bottom of the 11th, Scotty Burcham was on 2nd base with 2 away when Jake Gallaway came to the plate for his first at-bat in the game, and hit a chopper to 2nd baseman Jordan Copeland. Copeland's throw to Bo Walter was not in time to get Gallaway, and Burcham came around to score the game winning run.
The Elks will look to avoid the sweep Saturday against the Blue Jackets, first pitch at 6:35.
