Black Bears Beat K Falls 7-4, Next Game
July 28, 2012 - West Coast League (WCL)
Cowlitz Black Bears News Release
Longview: Matt Ozanne (Santa Clara) had a grand slam, five RBI in the game, and a huge run-saving catch to help the Cowlitz Black Bears to a 7-4 victory over the Klamath Falls Gems Friday night.
The Gems took a 1-0 lead in the first but it would have been worse if Ozanne hadn't made a running catch to rob a Gem of a base hit and complete a double play as the Klamath Falls base runner went on contact.
Ozanne tied the game in the bottom of the first with an RBI double. The Black Bears then mounted a threat in the third with a parade of base hits. Brian Frattali (Portland) had an RBI single to put the team back ahead and then Ozanne clubbed a home run over the left field wall for a grand slam.
Cole Irvin (Oregon) got the win, allowing one run in six innings while striking out four. Kevin Sprague (UC Riverside) got two big outs to end the eighth and Taylor Williams (Mt. Hood) retired Klamath Falls in order to end the game and record the save.
With the win, the Black Bears are now 19-22 in league play and just one game behind Klamath Falls for the final playoff spot in the WCL's West Division.
The Black Bears next home game is Saturday, July 28 and it will be Applebee's Saturday's @ The Park. It will also be Trading Card Night presented by Mr. C's.
