Bend Elks News Release
The Bend Elks were unable to cap off the sweep Saturday night as they lose to the Kelowna Falcons, falling by a score of 8-5.
The Falcons got on the board first in the top of the second when Kyle Pearson got a leadoff walk and eventually came around to score on an RBI single from Dillon Bryant. They then added 3 more in the top of the 4th after a walk, back to back base hits, an error, and a balk from Elk pitcher Nate King had the Elks trailing 4-0.
The Elks got one back in the bottom of the 5th with the leadoff hitter Michael Tevlin reaching on error, then a single and an RBI groundout got him around. Kelowna responded with one in the top of the 6th, but a flyout to centerfield resulted in 2 outs as Donald Collins took the fly ball and threw out Dillon Bryant at the plate.
That brought Kelowna manager Ed Cantwell out of the dugout, and he was ejected from the ballgame after a lengthy argument. The Elks got one in the bottom of the 7th, and then each team scored 3 runs in the 8th to end the scoring. In the bottom of the 8th, the Elks had bases loaded with nobody out, but were only able to score 3 runs total, and that would end the Elks scoring on the night as they would go 1-2-3 in the bottom of the 9th.
The Elks will begin a 3 game series tomorrow with the Corvallis Knights, tomorrow night's game being played in Corvallis, then Monday and Tuesday the two teams will play in Bend, including 4th of July festivities on Monday night. The game on Monday has a special 7:15 start time, and after the game fans go out on the outfield grass to watch the fireworks.
