Bend Elks News Release

In a game that featured just about everything: 17 runs, 29 hits, 10 errors, 16 walks, and a player ejection, the Bend Elks ended the 3 and a half hour game Thursday night with a victory, defeating the Kelowna Falcons by a score of 14-13 on Thursday night.

The Elks got on the board in the bottom of the first with 2 runs in the bottom of the 1st as Falcons starter Cody Dickson couldn't find the strike zone, giving up 4 walks and a single before being relieved. The Falcons got 4 back in the top of the 2nd after a leadoff error by shortstop Michael Benjamin, a walk, then 3 consecutive hits, 2 doubles, capped by a 2 run double from Victor Rasor-Thompson to make the score 4-2.

The scoring went back and forth for most of the night, as the Elks trailed for the first half of the game, tied the game up at 5 in the 5th, then things got interesting. The bottom of the 6th had some controversy as with runners on first and third, Kyle Buchanan wore the first pitch that he saw. However, home plate umpire Ed Rei said that Buchanan leaned into it, and kept him at the plate. This upset Buchanan, and after arguing with Rei, was ejected from the game.

Jordan Brower came in and delivered an RBI single in the at bat, and the Elks would take the lead for good in the half inning, scoring 4 and making it a 9-7 game. That wouldn't stop Kelowna from making it interesting though, as they cut the Elks 5 run lead in the top of the 9th into a 1 run game with the tying run on 3rd, but reliever Stephen Ostapeck got Kyle Pearson to ground out to 3rd to finally end it.

The Elks will return to action tomorrow for Family Friday, where families of 4 can get four general admission tickets, 4 hot dogs, and 4 sodas for $30. First pitch at 6:35.
