Indiana Blast News Release
INDIANAPOLIS- The El Paso Patriots (4-4-1, 13 pts) beat the Indiana Blast (0-7-1, 1 pt) 1-0 Saturday night at Kuntz Stadium. It was the fourth and final time the teams will meet in 2003, with the Patriots winning three of the four. The Blast tied El Paso 2-2 on May 9th.
The first three matches were physical, and tonight was no exception. In the 27th minute, the Blast's Mark Allen and El Paso's Sidnei Dos Santos were injured as they went for a 50-50 ball in the penalty area. Mark Allen received stitches and Dos Santos had a mild concussion. Both were fine after the game.
The Blast had worked all week on possession as well as tighter marking, and it showed. Indiana dominated the first half, creating several chances and limited the Patriots to just three shots, none of which were on goal.
The Blast's best chance came in the 70th minute. Godfrey Tenoff had his shot go just over the crossbar. Jamar Beasley danced past two Patriots defenders, and left the ball for Tenoff, whose shot just missed.
The lone goal was scored off a corner kick in the 80th minute by Carlos Martinez. Jose Diaz flicked a header to Martinez, who slipped a header past Blast keeper Josh Lynk, as he had already committed to the ball.
The Blast's next home game will be Tuesday, June 3rd against the Minnesota Thunder at 7:35 pm at Kuntz Stadium. It's "Blast and ME - Tobacco Free" night Gates will open at 6:30pm.
