Mississippi RiverKings News Release

SOUTHAVEN---David Lemanowicz recorded the first Memphis shutout since last season and Don Parsons collected his second hat trick in the last three games to lead the RiverKings to an 8-0 rout of the Laredo Bucks Saturday night at the DeSoto Civic Center. Prior to last Sunday, Memphis hadn't scored 8 or more goals in a game since a 9-5 win over Wichita on December 6, 2002. They now have scored 8 in two of their last three games, tonight's win and Sunday's 8-3 home win over Bossier-Shreveport.

The contest featured some strong individual performances: Parsons added an assist to his three goals to finish with a four point night; Travis Banga had a pair goals and pair of assists for a four point night; Derek Landmesser had five assists; Phil Aucion chipped in a goal and three assists and, of course, the shut-out performance of Lemanowicz in the nets topped it off.

This game started quickly for the RiverKings as Ted Crowley scored the first of the team's five power play goals at 1:20 of the first period. Banga also scored with a man advantage a minute-31 later to make it an early 2-0 RiverKings advantage. Laredo got in the hole by taking three minor penalties in the first 3:31 of the game. The Bucks ended the game with a total of 13 penalties and 45 penalty minutes. The first period ended at 2-0.

Parsons scored two in the second to make it 4-0 heading into the third. Two more power play goals followed in the four-goal third period as the ‘Kings finished the game five-for-ten with the man advantage. Scott English closed out the scoring with his third of the season at 8:19 of the third and then it was up to Lemanowicz. Laredo had two power play chances in the final six minutes, but Lemanowicz held firm in registering his first RiverKings shut out and the team's first since a 4-0 blanking of Oklahoma City on February 27, 2004.

Parsons, Aucoin and Landmesser all solidified their leads in three of the league's major scoring lists. Parsons' hat trick gives him a league high of 38. Aucoin's point total of 49 puts him atop all rookie scorers by double digits and Landmesser's five points keeps him ahead in the defensive scoring category. Lemanowicz made 31 saves on 31 shots to register the shutout and improve to 8-11-0 on the season.

This game was the RiverKings' last home game until February 17 as they play three games in Texas this upcoming week and then games at Oklahoma City and Bossier-Shreveport the next weekend. The RiverKings start that Texas swing on Tuesday night at San Angelo in a 7:05 start.
