Edmonton's Cliff Brumbaugh Takes Home Run Derby For the GBL

Tucson, AZ - Edmonton Capital's slugger Cliff Brumbaugh hit 11 home runs in the final round to win the 2010 International All-Star Home Run Derby for the Golden Baseball League.

Brumbaugh defeated Kansas City T-Bones infielder Jacob Blackwood who represented the Northern League in the finals.

Twelve players, six from each league, squared off in the derby that pitted the top sluggers from the GBL against the NL.

Brumbaugh wowed the crowd early with 11 bombs in the first round.

He advanced to the second round along with teammate Tom Collaro who hit 5 in the first round.

The Tucson Toros were well represented, with outfielder Lino Garcia putting one off the scoreboard and shortstop Ryan Priddy belting two over the wall in left field.

It was battle of teammates in the second round, with Blackwood surpassing Kansas City outfielder Brian Joynt to reach the finals for the NL.

Collaro hit another 4 in the second round, but his total of 9 was not enough to catch Brumbaugh.

In the final round Blackwood hit first and was locked in, driving out 10 home runs, most of which completely left the park.

Brumbaugh looked in trouble early in the final round, putting a few out but with a climbing out total.

The righthanded hitter gained steam late, tying Blackwood at 10 with 8 outs.

Down to his last out, Brumbaugh won it all with the final swing of his bat in front of a roaring crowd at Hi Corbett Field.

The All-Star festivities will continue Tuesday at The Maverick with an open to the public MLB All-Star game viewing party beginning at 5:00 p.m.
