
Edmonton Stingers Sign Marlon Johnson

EDMONTON, AB - The Edmonton Stingers of the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) announced on April 30th that the organization has signed Forward, Marlon Johnson, for the 2021 Season.
Johnson, 27, spent the 2020-2021 season playing in Finland with Pyrinto Tampere suiting up for two games where he averaged 31.5 minutes and 16.5 points per game.
The six-foot-ten product from Chicago, spent his first CEBL season with the Saskatchewan Rattlers, playing a big role in helping the Rattlers capture the first-ever Canadian Elite Basketball League championship. In 20 games (20 starts) with Saskatchewan, Johnson averaged 9.5 points, 7 rebounds and 1.6 assists. In the 2019 season, he also earned CEBL Defensive Player Of The Year Runner-up honours with the Saskatchewan Rattlers and 2019 All-CEBL Second Team Honours.
Johnson signed with the Edmonton Stingers during CEBL free agency in 2020, but was unable to take part in the CEBL Summer Series due to playing commitments at the TBT tournament which was postponed owing to the COVID-19 pandemic.
"It's been long awaited to have Marlon join us but it's finally here," said Stingers GM and Head Coach Jermaine Small. "His versatility, length and athleticism will immediately make us better. Knowing he's already won in this league, our guys are familiar and excited to play with him."
The six-foot-ten product of Chicago, IL was named a CEBL second-team all-star in his first season. Johnson has played professionally in Finland, Spain, Portugal and the Dominican Republic. After his CEBL season was over, Johnson played for the Sudbury Five of the National Basketball League of Canada (NBL). In 16 games (16 starts) with Sudbury, Johnson averaged 21 points, 11 rebounds and 2.1 assists, 1.9 steals and 1.9 blocks.
The CEBL is preparing for its third season in 2021, following the success of the 2020 CEBL Summer Series in St. Catharines, Ontario; which saw a record 1.2 million viewers across Canada tune in to four days of live programming on CBC.
