Edmonton Stingers Re-Sign Peter-McNeilly

EDMONTON, AB - The Edmonton Stingers of the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) announced Monday that they have re-signed point guard, Adika Peter-McNeilly for the 2021 season.

Peter-McNeilly joined the Edmonton Stingers in the 2019 inaugural season when he provided the team with veteran leadership both on and off the court. The former Ryerson University standout was a clutch shooter and effective ball-distributor who averaged 12.0 points, 3.4 assists, and 3.0 rebounds per game over 17 games. During the CEBL Summer Series, Peter-McNeilly played eight games for the Stingers and averaged 10.6 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 2.0 assists. He ranked third on the Stingers for steals per game at 1.5.

"He is a tough, experienced leader who has quietly been the glue for our team," said Stingers Head Coach and General Manager Jermaine Small. "He is a big reason why we have been successful the last two seasons. I know that going back-to-back is the only thing on his mind and that he will do whatever it takes to get there."

Prior to joining the Stingers, Peter-McNeilly played four years at Ryerson University where he had an illustrious career with the Ryerson Rams. In 2017, Peter-McNeilly was the first player in program history to be named USPORTS First Team All-Canadian. He was also named to the OUA First Team All-Stars in both 2016 and 2017. In addition, he received the CIS Tournament All-Star distinction in 2015, 2016, and 2017, and was a finalist for the D.H. Craighead Outstanding Contribution to Interuniversity Sport, Campus and Community Life Award.

Following his graduation from Ryerson, Peter-McNeilly signed with MHP RIESEN Ludwigsburg of the German Basketball League. In Germany, Peter-McNeilly averaged 8.5 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 1.5 assists in 62 games, earning 22 starting assignments. In 2019, Peter-McNeilly signed with Mitteldeutscher BC of the German Basketball League, where he averaged 6.6 points, 2.0 rebounds, and 1.8 assists in 20 games. Prior to the 2020 CEBL Summer Series, Peter-McNeilly averaged 8.9 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 2.1 assists in 16 contests with Metropole Basket Clubs in France.

The CEBL is preparing for its third season in 2021, following the success of the 2020 CEBL Summer Series in St. Catharines, Ont., which saw a record 1.2 million viewers across Canada tune in to four days of live programming on CBC.
