The Edmonton Energy continues the 2011 IBL season at home- this Friday at the University of Alberta versus the West Coast Hot Shots. Tip is set for 7:30. The two teams will match up two more times- again at the University of Alberta- on Saturday at 7:30pm and on Sunday at 3pm

About the West Coast Hotshots: the West Coast Hotshots are a team similar to USA All Stars that is an 'opportunity team' for players to join to showcase their ability but unlike the USA All Stars (0-18 record), West Coast Hotshots typically recruit selectively- the team is very good and is coached by an experienced head coach in Randy Redwine. The West Coast Hotshots are 8-5 on the season and look to come into Edmonton to compete- this should be a very strong/quality series. The Hotshots have recruited these 12 players for the Edmonton series-

* Marcus Bradford- 6'4" (Columbia College) - a point Guard; after 9 games in the IBL, Bradford averages 17 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists per game

* Brandon Adams- 6'7" (University of Hawaii) - a forward; after 9 games in the IBL, Adams averages 15 points and 9 rebounds per game.

* Joe Posey- 6'5" (Southern Polytechnic State) - a shooting guard; after 10 games in the IBL, Posey averages 15 points per game

* Justin Murray- 6'6" (Washington State University) - a former shooting guard and three time IBL All Star, Murray shifted his game to now become a defensive minded power forward. After 8 games in the IBL, Justin Murray averages a smooth 8 points, 6 rebounds and 2 assists but typically Murray is drawing the tough defensive assignments per game.

* NAIA All-American first team- Luke Enos - 6' 7" (Black Hills State University, an NAIA school in South Dakota)- is another forward who also starred in college; in fact, his last year in college he averaged16.4 points per game 7.3 rebounds and 1.2 blocks. Enos, a native of Faith, S.D., finished his career ranked fifth all-time in scoring at Black Hills State. Enos was named the Dakota Athletic Conference Most Valuable Senior this season and earned the Dakota Athletic Conference Most Valuable Player Award in 2008-09 and 2009-10.

* NAIA All-American third team- Will John Johnson- 6' 8" (Black Hills State University, an NAIA school in South Dakota)- is a forward who in college- started for three years and recently (end of 2011 season) was named third team all NAIA D2. Johnson, from Whitewood, S.D., averaged 13.0 points per game and 10.8 rebounds per game during his 2010-11 senior year in college. He is the all-time leading rebounder at Black Hills State and the only player in Black Hills State history to score 1,000 points and grab 1,000 rebounds in a career.

* Ronnell Grant- 5' 11" (University of Sioux Falls) - is a point guard- who averaged 9 pts in college and recently excelled in an exposure camp, now trying to push his level of play (with this trip to Edmonton).

* Canadian- Jordan Rose- 5' 10" (Lakeland College in Lloydminster) - filled in last week for Portland in their 3rd game of a 3-game series (Rose had 10 points and was a defensive help for Portland).

* Canadian- Moe Abdallah- 6' 4" (Mount Royal University)- a shooting guard- 2 time defending Hoop it Up Champion in Calgary, outside shooter, played professionally in Lebanon 1st division, made 40% of three pointers while on that Lebanese team

* Rounding out the roster for the Hotshots are a few other players brand new to the IBL from Calgary area:

1) Amir Ashuri- 5' 10 (Queen Elizabeth High School, Alberta provincial championships) - is a guard with a quick first step and accurate mid range shot.

2) Christopher Bent- 6' 9" - played in college and averaged 9 points, 12 rebounds and 6 blocks per game and was the defensive player of the season- CWOSSA defensive players of the year for 2 consecutive seasons- and

3) Kane Keller- 6' 4"- played football and basketball at the CIS level but mostly football (very limited basketball resume).

And coaching the West Coast Hotshots: Randy Redwine of Seattle is the head coach and Salman Rashidian will handle assistant duties (Rashidian is building a team in Calgary over next two years, and so Rashidian is using this three game series as assistant coach- as a learning experience for his future involvement in the IBL).
